CIAAI Helps Fire Investigators in training opportunities and available resources. Colorado has various terrains that range from mountains with thick forest, grassy plains, and desert. Fire Investigators within our great State travel throughout to help assist in fire investigations. The CIAAI is the Colorado Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI), whose membership is over 12,000-members of professionals from around the world dedicated to the control of arson and the investigation of all fires. Members include fire service investigators, police, engineers, scientist, insurance professionals, and attorneys in more than 70 chapters worldwide.

    This course is designed to provide the individual who is interested in becoming a fire investigator with the prerequisite knowledge necessary to help determine the origin and cause of a fire. This course is 30 - hours of tested materials. Please have the prerequisite CFITrainer.net courses complete:

    • The Scientific Method for Fire and Explosion Investigation
    • Understanding Fire Through the Candle Experiments
    • Fire Investigator Scene Safety

    Other courses that are beneficial for you would be:

    • Documenting the Event
    • Ethics and the Fire Investigator
    • NFPA 1033 and Your Career
    • The Practical Application of the Relationship Between NFPA 1033 and NFPA 921
    • The Scientific Method for Fire and Explosion Investigation

    This location is within a short driving distance to food locations.

    Attire for this course: Colorado Casual Attire during the classroom portion. Please have your department/agencies appropriate attire for a fire investigation during the burn cell portion.

    Materials needed: If you have a copy of NFPA 921 2024 Edition and the NFPA 1033 2022 Edition, please bring it to class. Also, note taking materials.

    Track A - Basic Track (30 Tested Hours): Nov 5 12:00 P.M. - Nov 8, 2024.

    Suitable for fire service personnel pursuing fire investigation training and/or law enforcement personnel involved in investigation or evidence collection at fire scenes. The class will be based on the 2021 Edition of NFPA 921 and will provide the basis for professional qualifications as outlined in NFPA 1033.
